Clockwork Heart Sequel: Brainstorming
Clockwork Heart 2, NaNoWriMo, Steampunk Comments (1)
Those hot dry winds that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands’ necks. Anything can happen. — Raymond Chandler, Red Wind
Last night, as the Santa Anas roared through the pines outside my second-story apartment window, I turned off the lights, lit some candles, and lounged on my leather sofa brainstorming the plot of the Clockwork Heart sequel I’ll be writing for National Novel Writing Month next month. I scribbled one story idea, scene, or question per square of paper and began to stack them up.
Although I still have some plot question marks to deal with, a coherent outline is starting to take shape. Readers can expect to learn more about the world outside Ondinium as Taya and Cristof settle into their diplomatic careers. Some old friends and enemies will be in the novel, and also some new ones. Politics, big business, science, and technology will play central roles, and Ondinium’s prestige, power, and problems will be seen played out against a somewhat larger playing field.
I hope some of you might join me — 50K in one month! You can do it. Remember the NaNoWriMo slogan: No plot? No problem!

It’s most certainly exciting to hear that Clockwork Heart 2 is taking shape – I’ve got several people I’ll be watching on NaNo this year, and you’re one of them! If you need any help with anything – technological, military, or otherwise – drop me a line. I’ve been doing alot of thinking about what we were talking about…
