Do you have an ISBN yet? I’d like to ask my university library to order a copy…

Hey……. Germany REPRESENT! I expect the book will be open to the normal buying public via Amazon? Will there be an ebook edition?

I’ve got your questions about ISBN & ebooks out to the editor, so I’ll let you know what I find out. As far as Amazon availability goes, other McFarland titles are listed there, so I’m sure this book will be, as well. :-)

Boys’ Love Manga: Book Update

Academic, Boys' Love / Yaoi Comments (5)

BL Book Cover TeaserOur yaoi book has a new title and a tentative cover that I can’t reveal in its entirety because the art is still under negotiation. If we get permission to use it, however, I promise it’ll be one of the most eye-catching covers for an academic book that you’ve ever seen!

Our table of contents is listed below; please keep in mind that the chapter names are still subject to change at the publisher’s request. Nevertheless, it should give you a good idea of what you can expect from the volume.

We’re very excited about Boys’ Love Manga — it includes works by authors who are academics, independent scholars, and publishers and mangaka; who identify as male, female, and other/both; and who identify as gay, lesbian, queer, and straight. Among the academics, some are entering or in graduate school, while others hold various ranks as professors, including that enviable rank of “retired.” The theoretical approaches taken in the essays include anthropological, economic, feminist, historical, literary, psychological, queer, and sociological perspectives on boys’ love as it has been received in Australia, Canada, Germany, Indonesia, and the United States … not to mention that transnational community, the Web.

Boys’ Love Manga is scheduled for the Spring 2010 catalog from McFarland, so be certain to ask your libraries and bookstore to put in an order once the catalog is out!
