The Día de los Muertos anthology from Elektrik Milk Bath Press will be coming out soon! My somewhat surreal short story “Pan de los Muertos” will be in it; I’m looking forward to reading the other stories when I get my copy.
I’ve often thought that Día de los Muertos needs more English-language fictional attention paid to it. The holiday as it’s celebrated in the Southwest and in Mexico is a fascinating contrast with the Halloween of England and the East Coast/Midwest stretch of the United States. My story touches on that contrast, but I’d really like to run across an author who does for Día de los Muertos what Ray Bradbury did for Halloween in, for example, Something Wicked This Way Comes, or The Halloween Tree. Maybe that’s already happened in Spanish, but I’m afraid I need to read it in English.
With luck, I’ll meet that author in this new anthology!
