Mechanical Angel in Venice
Tucked at the end of a corridor on the way to the campanile in San Giorgio Maggiore towers this rusty metal angel, exiled, one imagines, from the top of the church overlooking the Canale della Giudecca to this dismal, enclosed spot.
He is, perhaps, guarding the case of golden crowns that stands next to him, but it seems poor recompense for losing the sun and the water and the view of Piazza San Marco.
