Clockwork Heart was originally a National Novel Writing Month self-challenge, although later I cleaned it up and sent it out. Steampunk romance wasn’t yet a Thing in 2007 — in fact, my editor asked, “are we inventing a genre?” and maybe we did — but Juno Books picked it up and published it in 2008. Later, they released the rights back to me and my agent got me a trilogy deal with another publisher.
